Unity • Witness • Service
The Church of North India is part of the One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church — the Body of Christ — which He is building up out of persons of all generations and races. The Church of North India is what it is as a Church by reason of what it has received from God in Christ, by bringing together into one life the several traditions of the Churches that have united to constitute it.
This heritage is the fruit of the continuous working of God’s Spirit in His Church through all ages — from Apostolic times through the Reformation and down to our own day.
To make disciples, proclaim and live the gospel of Jesus Christ, with the power of the Holy Spirit to transform all communities within the CNI to bring glory to God.
The CNI accepts the episcopal, presbyteral, and congregational elements in Church order as the means through which the Lordship of Christ in His Church may be realized. The harmony of these elements is seen in the oversight relating to the legislative, administrative, liturgical, and pastoral matters assigned to the Synod, diocesan councils, and other organs of the Church’s life.
The personal oversight of a diocesan Bishop goes hand in hand with this corporate responsibility, shared by Bishops, Presbyters, Deacons, and Lay people acting together, as well as the corporate responsibility of the episcopate of the Church as a whole in three levels – Synod, Diocese, and Congregation.
The Church of North India has a membership of approximately 2.3 million believers, with over 4,600 congregations and local churches, served by 2,355 ordained male ministers and 68 ordained women ministers. The CNI also oversees 7 theological colleges, 60 hospitals and medical centers, and 564 educational institutions across the country.
